Castle Park, Liskeard
Castle Park is one of Liskeard’s most popular green spaces, located a short walk from the town centre, the park provides a space where people can relax, explore and enjoy the outdoors. It also serves as an important link between the town and nearby residential areas.
The park is a mix of mature trees, open grassy areas, and wildlife-friendly flower beds. There are two play areas for toddlers and teens.
A park with history
Castle Park takes its name from the remains of Liskeard Castle, a Norman motte-and-bailey castle that once stood on the site. Although nothing remains visible today, the area is of historic significance and forms an important part of Liskeard’s heritage.
Within the park, you can also see the Bull Stone, a historic landmark with connections to local traditions, and the War Memorial, together, these features link the park to the town’s history and identity.
A space for everyone
Castle Park is enjoyed by people of all ages throughout the year. Whether you’re looking for a quiet walk, somewhere to sit and enjoy nature, or a place for children to play, the park offers something for everyone.
Key features include:
- Open green spaces for informal recreation
- Two children’s play areas (currently in need of investment)
- Pathways connecting the town centre with nearby residential areas
- Seating areas and picnic spots to rest and enjoy the surroundings
- Popular with dog walkers — please keep dogs on leads
- New CCTV installed to help keep visitors safe
Making Space for Nature
Castle Park has benefited from investment through the Making Space for Nature project, which aimed to enhance green spaces for both people and wildlife. Improvements delivered through this project include new and improved pathways to make the park easier and more enjoyable to explore, picnic benches providing welcoming places to sit, meet and relax, a new noticeboard to share information about the park, wildlife, and community activities, and new flower beds to add seasonal colour and support pollinators. These enhancements have made Castle Park a more attractive, accessible, and welcoming space for everyone.
Volunteering in Castle Park
Regular volunteering sessions take place in Castle Park and play an important role in helping to care for and improve the space. The Urban Shoots in Cornish Towns project works with volunteers to plant and maintain flowerbeds, help with general tidying and supporting nature-friendly improvements.
Volunteering at Castle Park is a great way to get outdoors and be active, meet new people and support your local community, learn more about nature and conservation, and help look after one of Liskeard’s most valued green spaces. Everyone is welcome, and no prior experience is needed – for further information contact Kelly at volunteers@cormac.co.uk.
