Marc-Olivier Parlatano Interesting site about Liskeard, I don't know Cornwall, I've never been there. On Wikipedia page about Liskeard one can find some famous people related to the town. But not Agnes Grozier Herbertson (1872-1950). She was born in Norway, Oslo, and published short stories, poems, and childrens' books, "Heroic Legends" in 1907, etc. I came across a Herbertson's childrens book in French translation in second hand market in Geneva, Switzerland, "Le Pere Lendormi", short tales about gnomes and giants (I don't know the English title) published by Nelson Editions in 1935... in French. Best regards 02/06/09

Linda my childrens great/g/g/grandparents were married here in 1838 and he was a miner born in Devon. Her name was Maria Higman and his George Williams. They came to Australia on the ship Mary Shepherd in 1863 and settled in South Australia and then Broken Hill, New South Wales working firstly as a farmer and then in the mines at Broken Hill where his children carried on the tradition in their early years. They both died prior to 1903. They had 11 children, 3 of which were born in Cornwall. Hope you find this of interest to know what happened to one of your own.

Anthony I was born in the small village of DOBWALLS, near Liskeard in 1980. Does anyone know what happened to the Indian family who used to own the Mace Shop in Dobwalls. I know that they sold the shop about 9 to 10 years ago, and the new owners turned the Mace shop into a Spar shop. They were such a nice family and nice people too. Please e-mail me with any information as I would like to say hello to them, and thank them for running such a nice shop. Please contact me: plymouthdevon@hotmail.com 9/1/08

Just stumbled across the website. I was born in Liskeard in 1934 at Lake Farm which is now a housing estate. There isn`t even a road name to commemorate the farm.I try to come down to Grammar School Reunions,as I live near Tunbridge Wells which isn`t too far away.I am hoping to go to NZ early next year. Anyone with tips on travel and accomodation for the lively but more mature single lady?

Audrey Cirillo (nee Stoneham) This is a lovely visitors' book! A vivid memory of Liskeard is of our family walking out from the town onto Bodmin Moor during World War Two. The area was empty of people and melancholy - a rook, quite dead, swung from a tall pole - we walked on and then a strange site came into view. An empty US Army truck, its soldiers squatting on the road playing dice, was before us. So absorbed were the men I don't think they noticed our passing by. It was a surreal encounter. We were Londoners evacuated to Looe in 1940 where we stayed until war's end in 1945. My father worked in the shipyard of Frank Curtis Ltd and we lived at Furzedown Terrace which backed onto the Downs at the top of West Looe. It was an idyllic time and it broke my heart to leave. I have lived here in Sydney for almost 50 years but can never forget the happiness of my Cornish childhood all those years ago. 18/8/07

Jack Edwards As our father had been transferred to Devonport with the RN we followed and rented a house in Looe, in Pendrim Rd, way up the top of East Looe, liking climbing the Eiger. My sister and I first went to school locally (myself to the Looe Boys) and then Sylvia went on to Miss Rapson's school in Liskeard while I went to the grammar school in the same town. I have happy memories of summers on Looe beach, the fishing luggers coming alongside the quay with their exciting catches, the Royal Artillery based at Hannafore excercising the defensive guns. Later many of Uncles Sam's young men who came over to help our war effort. Such an invasion of 'Foreigners, Looe embraced them all. So many memories of such a lovely place and wonderful Cornish characters. 12/3/07

Jan Perkins Wonderful web site, found after my GtGtGtGrandfather was discovered to have come from Liskeard. Born in 1845 Thomas WOOLLEY and what appears to be his sister Eleanor WOOLLEY born in 1844, any assistance in finding the church they might have been baptised at would be marvellous. Struggling to find the family, THEIR father was Robert WOOLLEY spelt WHOLLY on census.

Rube Edmonds I am a retired mathematics teacher from Guildford Grammar School in Western Australia. My Father was born in St.Cleer in 1886, the son of William Edmonds and Jane Edmonds (formerly Jane Harris). He migrated to Queensland Australia in 1912. My wife Wendy and I will be visiting Liskeard in September, 2003 to research my Father's background and hopefully meet some descendants of his sisters : Blanche (True), Beatrice (Cole) and Madaline (Hall)or relatives of his mother Jane Harris whose parents were W. and Elizabeth Harris.
