LISKEARD TOWN COUNCIL

PRESS RELEASE

Liskeard Town Council has announced the Retirement of the Town Clerk Brenda Furse with effect from 1 July 2010, having given 6 months notice of her intention.

Brenda served 14 years as Town Clerk and was previously the Parish Clerk at St Ive for 21 years.

Commenting on her decision, Town Mayor Tony Powell said:

"Brenda is Liskeard born and is known throughout the area. She has been an exceptional Town Clerk and led us to Quality Status through her dedication and hard work. She will be sadly missed, but Brenda and her husband Ken want to pursue other things in their private lives and we totally understand this.

We are now in the process of seeking her replacement and advertisements will be placed shortly. We hope to make an appointment by the middle of September to allow a reasonable handover. We will be seeking a similar high quality candidate to take us forward into the largely unchartered waters of the Unitary Authority and to negotiate and implement partnering arrangements with Cornwall Council as they evolve."

"Brenda said that she joined the Council in 1988 when Tom Pitty was Town Clerk and Owen Sivell the Mayor. She has seen many changes over the years and enjoyed working for the town but now considers that it is time to take life a little easier. I would like to wish the Council every success as they move forward with the development of the town and taking on more responsibility from Cornwall Council."
