Welcoming the Torch
As part of the celebrations to welcome the Olympic torch to Liskeard on the19th May the museum held an exhibition on Sporting Liskeard. Also on display were a selection of posters designed by local school children to promote the torch relay.
St Cleer Olympic medalist Cassie Patten donated her Olympic medal and her kit for the exhibition, Cassie came into the museum to help out with children's craft activities and sign autographs.
It was a fabulous day, the whole town was filled with people and we had 400 visitors in the museum - a record!

We're Open Again
This year the museum was closed for a little longer than usual over Christmas to give us time to give our store cupboards and artefacts a really good clean and to complete our cataloging. We are now open again so come in and see the results of all our hard work.
Liskeard Lights Up
The museum joined in the fun of Liskeard Lights Up 2011 which had a circus theme. These colourful banners created for Sue Field's "Bygg Top" (formerly the "Picky Tree") produced by the Stroke association, Echo Centre clients, and residents of the local Old Age People's Residential Homes were displayed in the musuem.

Children's Craft Activities
The museum has been holding regular craft activities during the school holidays. The theme for the October half term craft session was 'Cave Man Crafts'.
The children took part in crafts including cave paintings, making a sabre tooth tiger mask and watching a model volcano explode.
The next craft session will be on Wednesday 29th May 2013 between 11am and 12.30pm. The sessions are completely free and all are welcome to drop by and join in.
We look forward to you coming and joining us!

LISKEARD & DISTRICT MUSEUM
Gains nomination for Queen’s Award for Volunteers
|
|
|
|
|
Liskeard and District Museum is the interpretation centre for the Caradon Area of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage Site. This gives the opportunity not only to provide services for the local community but also to national and international communities. As all the people working in the Museum are volunteers Liskeard’s Cornwall Councillor, Mrs Janet Powell, nominated them for a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service.
The nomination was endorsed by Lady Mary Holborow, Lord-Lieutenant of Cornwall, and Councillor Mrs Pat Harvey, Chairman of Cornwall Council who gave a reception at County Hall on 21 st April 2010. Fifteen other Cornish volunteer organisations were put forward and three were successful. Unfortunately, the Museum did not get through the final round, but will be proud to display the certificate and photograph to commemorate the achievement in being nominated from Cornwall.
